Homeopathy has successfully
treated anthrax poisoning since the 19th century.
The following information
is taken from a search of almost 500 volumes on homeopathic
medicines (materia medica) that have been published over
the past 200 years. Anthrax was a relatively common, though
often fatal, disease during this period and homeopaths had
a lot of experience in treating it successfully.
What is anthrax?
'Anthrax,' a Greek word meaning 'coal' [anthracite], refers
to the burning character of the disease.
Anthrax is an infectious
and often fatal disease caused by infection of subcutaneous
tissues with Bacillus anthracis, which particularly occurs
in cattle and in humans who come into contact with cattle
or products infected with it [skin], through infection via
the skin [where the bacterium causes a swollen, pustular
area, often with a black centre, called pustula maligna]
or via the lungs [from inhalation of spores]. When infected
meat is consumed, infection via the intestines is also possible.
The clinical picture is determined by a sepsis with serious
consequences. The disease is marked by haemorrhage and serous
effusions in various organs and body cavities and by symptoms
of extreme prostration. Anthrax spores may continue to be
infectious for many years, even in articles made from infected
animal products.
Pustula maligna, cutaneous
anthrax: a characteristic lesion that begins as a papule
which soon becomes a vesicle and breaks, discharging a bloody
serum; in about 36 hours the seat of this vesicle becomes
a bluish black necrotic mass; constitutional symptoms are
severe: high fever, vomiting, profuse sweating and extreme
prostration; the affection is often fatal.
Intestinal anthrax: usually a fatal form of anthrax marked
by chill, high fever, pain in the head, back, and extremities,
vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, prostration, and frequently
by haemorrhages from the mucous membranes and in the skin
[petechiae].
Pulmonary anthrax: wool-sorters'
disease or pneumonia; rag-sorters' disease; a form of anthrax
acquired by inhalation of dust containing Bacillis anthracis;
there is an initial chill followed by pain in the back and
legs, rapid respiration, dyspnoea, cough, fever, rapid pulse,
and extreme prostration. [Stedman's]
Anthrax is used in biological
warfare. In 1979 an outbreak of anthrax poisoning in Sverdlovsk,
USSR, was attributed to an accident at a Soviet germ-warfare
factory. Over 1000 thousand people were reported to have
died from it. The Soviets claimed that the epidemic was
caused by anthrax-infected meat.
How can Homeopathy be used to treat anthrax poisoning?
Homeopathy has recorded the symptoms experienced by many
healthy people when they take a particular homeopathically
prepared substance. The main principle is that 'like cures
like' and so to prescribe successfully you match the symptoms
experienced by a person who is ill to the medicine that
has cause the most similar symptom picture in these healthy
substance testers (known as provers).
The following remedies
(all in the Double Helix Basic 36 kit) may be helpful in
cases of anthrax poisoning as they are homeopathically well-indicated,
that is to say they have a similar symptom picture.
Remember, homeopathic medicine is safe for anyone to use,
even infants and expectant or breastfeeding mothers, because
the medicine is given in very tiny doses :
Aconite
Anthrax - when there is much inflammation with high fever.
Apis
Stitching, burning pain in anthrax, with sensitiveness to
the least touch, and erysipelatous redness around it; furuncles,
with manifold sloughs of dead connective tissue; chronic
tendency to furuncles.
Arnica
Anthrax, carbuncle, malignant pustule.
Arsenicum
Itching, burning, swellings. Oedema; eruption, papular,
dry, rough, scaly; worse cold and scratching. Malignant
pustules. Ulcers with offensive discharge. Anthrax. Poisoned
wounds. Burning and restlessness.
Belladonna
Anthrax - Bright redness, with throbbing pain. When cerebral
complications arise. Erysipelatous inflammation around the
carbuncle.
Bryonia
Anthrax, carbuncle, malignant pustule.
Carbo veg
Anthrax - Dark blackish appearance of the sore, with fetid
discharge.
China
When the asthenic character of the disease is well marked.
Debility from excessive suppuration.
Hepar sulph
Formation of boils or pustules around the anthrax; relieves
the severe pain, favors the suppurative process and hastens
the discharge of the slough.
Ipecac
Ipecac has been used locally and internally for malignant
pustule and anthrax in which disease Dr. Edwin Muskett considers
it specific. In certain forms of peripheral neuritis it
deserves more consideration than has hitherto been allotted
to it (Cooper). Ip. has much of the sensitiveness of Chin.
There is better by touch. Oversensitiveness to heat and
cold. Ipecac according to Hahnemann is a short-acting medicine.
Lachesis
Anthrax - bluish purplish looking carbuncles, with evidences
of blood poisoning. Nightly burning, obliging one to rise
and wash parts in cold water. Cerebral symptoms.
Merc viv.
Anthrax with other typical Merc viv symptoms, offensive smelly
discharge, increased salivation, temperature swings from
high to low.
Silica
Boils or carbuncles on nape of neck; anthrax; want of vital
warmth; slow progress of disease. Swelling hard, discolored,
purplish-red, discharging from an opening near edge, acrid,
corroding, stinking, yellowish-green ichor. ~ Carbuncle.

"The physician's
high and only mission is to restore the sick to health."
Samuel Hahnemann ~ Founder of Homeopathy.
